The town of Mittenwald lies in the gap between the Karwendelstein and Wetterstein mountains beyond which one can see the Bavarian plains north of the Alps.
Germany's highest peak, the Zugspitze, is on the west (left) end of the Wetterstein Mtns (view blocked by Solstein).
